Happy Fourth of July to you! As an American, I am thankful for the liberty we enjoy in this country. Our Founders understood the dangers a strong central government posed to individual rights and freedom. To combat tyranny, they established our Constitution to protect our God-given rights by restraining and limiting our federal government. This was accomplished, in part, through the creation of three Constitutionally-constrained and independent branches of government that provided limits on and balance to the other branches.
Personally, I fear we are losing the liberties we take for granted today as Americans. I believe they are being systematically eroded away by greedy politicians and bureaucrats. This trend has been progressing for decades but has accelerated greatly in this century as our culture has shown a willingness to trade liberty for a sense of security.
I am committed to our Constitution and expect our leaders to be likewise committed. I have become more interested in reading our Founders own words instead of merely reading someone's views about them. I seek to no longer see politicians and policy through partisan eyes but through the eyes of liberty. I want to know if a particular candidate or policy will protect our liberty or reduce it in an unconstitutional manner. And, perhaps more importantly, I have become more involved in protecting our liberty when it is threatened. I strongly recommend you do the same.
