Still wondering about those green beans?
If you missed Leigh Ann Wheat, M.S., BCBA, give her presentation entitled, "From Yuk to Yum: Expanding your child's food preferences," at our last Shape-It training in January, you're in luck! She will be giving her presentation again during one of our Parent Learning Lunches! If you are still wondering how to increase your child's interest in different foods, join us at our Tomball Clinic for this February's Parent Learning Lunch. Leigh Ann will be able to provide strategies and other behavior analytic techniques that will help your loved one expand their food palette. She will also be available to answer any individual questions you may have at the end of the presentation! This Parent Learning Lunch will be held on Thursday, February 4, 12:00-1:00pm at our Tomball Clinic. Don't forget to RSVP! tomball@shapeofbehavior.com.
Shape Takes on TXABAAt the end of February, the Shape Leadership team will be attending the Texas Association for Behavior Analysis Regional Conference in Galveston, Texas. The goal of this conference is to learn more from experts in the field of ABA and catch up on the latest research!
Here at the Shape, we value educational opportunities that will not only enrich the minds of our staff but will enhance the quality of treatment we provide for your loved ones. We will be attending numerous workshops on different topics ranging from understanding ABA principles to finding out what is new in the field of medicine that may benefit behavior analysts.
Running the Race for Autism One of our BCBA interns, Scott Nipper, M.Ed., has recently jointed the TRI for Autism program sponsored by the Organization for Autism Research (OAR). OAR is a non-profit organization focused on funding research studies that investigate educational techniques to increase learning, explore various treatment options, and contribute to the growing body of applied research. TRI for Autism is a program which enables individuals to spread awareness and raise funds for Autism research.
Scott will be participating in the Lonestar Ironman 70.3 triathlon challenge on April 25, 2010 on Galveston Island. All of the funds raised by Scott will be donated to OAR. Many of you are probably wondering what exactly is involved in the Ironman 70.3 Triathlon challenge? Well, it is a courageous feat of endurance! It involves completing a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and a 13.1 mile run. We support Scott on his endeavor and wish him all the best! If you would like more information about Scott's race for Autism, please visit: www.firstgiving.com/scottnipper
Sail the Day Away! Are you looking for a fun, recreational & educational activity that is great for the whole family? Well, search no further. The Heart of Sailing Foundation is a non-profit organization that offers services for those of any age with developmental disabilities. Families are able to sail the day away on one of their famous Daysail trips. Captain Dave McCabe and other volunteers work to provide a fun filled learning opportunity to all those with special needs. Sailing provides a neat environment to enhance an individual's teamwork, social, communication and problem-solving skills! You can sail from Galveston Bay, and the Daysail trip is FREE although they do charge a minimal registration fee of $10, which is much less than the cost of putting on these amazing trips.
