20-Ten: Expect A Bumper Year

Energy and green have now become rivals to the weather as everyday discussion topics.  Today it’s all about energy efficiency, environmental friendliness and save-the-earth as everyone has become very aware of the need for careful stewardship of our resources.  At last, the culture pendulum has swung in the direction of our industry and we no longer have to endure blank looks about what we do – now it’s all smiles and thumbs up.

There has never been a more promising time for our industry.  Everyone from the President to the Chimney Sweep is beating the drum for the capabilities provided by energy services companies [ESCO’s]. And the “talk” is being backed up with spending.  Energy Upgrade has achieved stand-alone status as a separate line item in most self-respecting, corporate budgets (long overdue).  In many cases energy or green has become the focal anchor that sets the tone of many marketing strategies.  As we look upon this previously trying year,  the energy upgrade  (a totally discretionary expenditure) was not always the first one slashed – signifying a definite stature improvement.

Indeed, there are many topics and calls for action that are happening in our industry – all of which are good!  Numerous utilities are subsidizing most retrofit costs and in some cases all of them.  Often, if there is an outstanding residual amount, they are willing to amortize it on the customer’s utility bill – or even pay the contractor directly.  These days, about the only step left for an ‘end-user’ is to say YES!  And the standards of our industry are definitely scaling up as utilities (& customers) are requiring ESCO’s to show credentials before allowing participation in their programs.  We don’t know yet how utilities view manufacturers that also perform construction. Thus far it appears that they can’t serve the customers’ best interests while trying to work both ends of the street.

On the technical front, designs are improving and merging with new technologies.  LED’s evolvement of light output and color stability make their use a very viable alternative. They do however still require a significant maintenance component to shorten payback time consistent with that of a conventional retrofit.  Digitally addressable systems continue to gain interest. Daylight harvesting systems are now accessable by use of readily available sensors and dimmable ballasts.  Solar technology is still mostly in its infancy and remains highly subsidized.  But, with light source efficiencies improving so rapidly, we may soon see shopping malls totally operated by self-contained solar farms.  One thing is most definitely certain however, that when a new innovation becomes a real-life application, the ingenuity to get it into practical use will have come from an ESCO.

Progression

In the face of such a rapidly changing economy, we honor progress and find opportunity in detail. From the hired hands to machine upgrades, every detail counts – shaping our products’ quality and price and rendered services.

Recently, we have taken steps to assure a progressive new year. Among them is the purchase of an additional vertical brake.  As always, our lead times are very important and this machine will decrease these times, while increasing our capacity.

Our website is another step we have taken toward progress, and is constantly improving.  The site is a tool for better communication in areas such as case studies, ordering guides, detailed descriptions and photos so you can make better decisions based on your needs.

We are also offering an online Credit Form and an online Purchase Order Form that will eliminate error and quicken form processing for a more thorough and complete turnaround. You can also download the forms on these pages if you prefer to fax in or email back – all information is provided within each of the web pages.

And lastly, our progress is only as good as the hands who make it happen – please welcome our most recent hires: Buck Moon, Accountant and HR Manager, Deb Beigle, Administrative Assistant and Accounts Payable, and Bobby Beecher, Materials Leveraging and Logistics Manager.

Though we set our standards high, it is helpful to know how we are serving you through your feedback. We look forward to your emails and phone calls – so chat us up and let us know how we are doing.

Energy. Money. Time. | If Nothing Else, Retrofit!

Although LED’s are the lighting of the future, the money may not be available to make that switch. We understand. Your company may need to make some changes to what you think the budget won’t allow. Let our credit department walk you through some ideas that may give you just what you need, for right now.

We are an energy efficient lighting company that was founded on some great beliefs and unbeatable, standard, retrofit fixtures. We have refined our most commonly sought after kits. We are the leaders in quality products delivered on time and we understand the need for improvement.

Looking for Retail Kits? Ask about our KSL or KSH Retrofit Kits for low, gridless ceilings, or try our KTC for gridded ceilings. Our OHB or IHB Highbays are a sure bet for higher ceilings.

Office Kits? The KPG Series is recommended for the glare reduction that this kit provides. Also, the KTC when fitted with an acrylic lens is a great consideration.

Need Industrial Kits? Our VPT or VCT Series are vaportight fixtures that are specially designed for unclean or dusty environments.

In addition to standard kits our skilled engineers can draw custom designs for any application if needed. If you just aren’t sure, contact us and we will be happy to walk you through the steps.

Braggin' Rights go to Beverly Driggers!

We introduce to you Beverly Driggers! Beverly has been a keystone in our company with unwaivering dedication since she came aboard in 2004. She serves her team well as a committed leader and offers superb consistency in all aspects of her career.

Beverly is a true Georgia native, born and raised in Appling County. She and her husband, Bobby Driggers, live in Vidalia where she began a career in the manufacturing industry in 1967.

Hard work and dedication is in Beverly’s make up. She watched and learned from the leaders in her life, her parents, that these are the keys to survival.

It was in her job with [former] Federal Pacific that Beverly learned the skills of assembling fixtures and later, wiring them. These skills excelled her to the present position as team leader with US Energy Sciences, taking responsibility for proper and accurate wiring for all fixtures.

When Beverly, speaks, we listen! Beverly’s experience is truly valued by everyone at USES, and especially by her team. Working alongside a master skills-woman isn’t something we take for granted.

Dedication and hard work is the product of first, loving your job – and Beverly contends that she does love her job! She is good at what she knows, and knows it well, but attributes her success to the folks on her line. She finds the job rewarding and says, “I take pride in knowing a fixture I helped make may be used in an operating room, or even at an assisted living housing complex for the elderly.”

She also says that the dedication and loyalty of USES also makes her job rewarding, and compares her co-workers with more of a likeness to family.

We thank you Beverly!
