Cankles & Careers Hi <<First Name>>, Cankles? Really? For very few of us, cankles develops as a symptom of a legitimate medical diagnosis (example: pregnancy can cause swelling of the ankles), but for the most part, this is a made-for-marketing buzz word to help sell more gym memberships. Do we need another media-hyped insecurity about the way we look?! Don’t we have enough to be concerned about in terms of our appearance?! It turns out my July 28, 2009 Facebook rant about the "Cankles Awareness Month" campaign created by Gold's Gym was heard (and read) loud and clear by Wendy C. Fries, the senior editor of WebMD, who interviewed me about this latest body fixation. In the article I was teamed up with the director of the New York Obesity Research Center Weight Loss Program to talk shop on this new "epidemic."
Check out the article and let me know what you think. Yours truly, Jessica LeRoy { clinical director, ma, mft } 323.369.0755 ext. 2 jessica@psychologyofwomen.com P.S. Keep sending me those article links and get your voice heard by becoming a Facebook Fan of the Center.
