Going to the UN in May
The United Nations has recognized the work of Rio de Paz and is officially giving us accreditation. We will be going to the UN in New York on May 3 to receive our UN passes. This will be a great platform to advocate regarding the desperate situation of human rights here in Brasil. I am one of three that was granted this opportunity with Rio de Paz, so I am very thankful.

First Al Jazeera, next Amnesty International, What's next? Part of our work with Restore Brazil here in Rio has to do with human rights. We have partnered with Rio de Paz, a human rights organization designed to draw awareness to the problem of violence here in Brazil. This has been a great opportunity for Gospel proclamation as well. This week I received a call from the leadership at Rio de Paz that Amnesty International was interested in learning more about our efforts. We met with a Dutch representative and toured a dangerous slum. The day before he went to the prison and saw the conditions there as well. Amnesty appears to be interested in doing a joint project with us here in Brazil. Below is a shot of me in the favela Mangenhos during our tour. I never thought that we would be talking with some of the organizations that have opened their doors. We are always careful in considering partnership of course, but if there are ways to improve the lives of those who live in the slums and prisons, we are on board. Church Planting & Development Update We have started our church plant in Cidade de Deus. We range from having 40-70 people there each week, primarily kids. Josh & Ana as well as Guilian & Christy have been working there every week. We are praying for more adults to engage by God's grace.
We also are continuing our Restore Brazil monthly meetings, which have been going very well. Acts 29 Church Planting Conference in May
In May we are hosting the first ever Acts 29 conference in Brazil. In conjunction with Restore Brazil, a Bible College here (Escola Teologica Reformada), and a publisher (Tempo de Colheita) we are expecting an excellent conference with some great speakers. Prayer Requests We want to thank you for praying for us. Here are the most strategic ways to pray for Jay & Luciane: 1) Pray for our new church plant in Cidade de Deus, especially that we can reach adults. 2) Pray for Jay's visit to the US in May to the UN. 3) Pray that Jay continues to grow in his Portuguese. 4) Pray for our upcoming Acts 29 Conference in May. 5) Pray for resources to accomplish the vision God has called us to. 6) Pray with us that we can see many churches planted in 2010! A final word... Some days are tough here, but God has been so gracious. We are thankful for all of our Restore Brazil partners. You have all been so supportive. Thank you for praying for us and keeping in touch. Thank you also for contributing to our ministry. We want to hear from you.
