Going to the UN in May

The United Nations has recognized the work of Rio de Paz and is officially giving us accreditation.  We will be going to the UN in New York on May 3 to receive our UN passes.  This will be a great platform to advocate regarding the desperate situation of human rights here in Brasil.  I am one of three that was granted this opportunity with Rio de Paz, so I am very thankful.  



First Al Jazeera, next Amnesty International, What's next?

Part of our work with Restore Brazil here in Rio has to do with human rights.  We have partnered with Rio de Paz, a human rights organization designed to draw awareness to the problem of violence here in Brazil.  This has been a great opportunity for Gospel proclamation as well.

This week I received a call from the leadership at Rio de Paz that Amnesty International was interested in learning more about our efforts.  We met with a Dutch representative and toured a dangerous slum.  The day before he went to the prison and saw the conditions there as well.  Amnesty appears to be interested in doing a joint project with us here in Brazil.   Below is a shot of me in the favela Mangenhos during our tour.



I never thought that we would be talking with some of the organizations that have opened their doors.  We are always careful in considering partnership of course, but if there are ways to improve the lives of those who live in the slums and prisons, we are on board.
