Likewise Books
Quick! Put down that latté . . .
Hey you! Yes, you there. With the coffee. Do you know if that coffee is fair trade? How about that T-shirt you're wearing. Was it ethically made? Do you know why Christians should care? Not sure? Julie Clawson can help!

Putting the Everyday in Justice
Everyday JusticeWe're pumped to introduce you to Julie Clawson and her new book, Everyday Justice. In this book Julie helps us understand how the things we eat, wear and use everyday are part of a bigger picture and can be used by God's people to propagate injustice or to promote peace and justice for our neighbors (you remember them—the people Jesus calls us to love as much as we love ourselves). We could go on, but Julie can probably lay it out better.

A Note from Julie
Julie ClawsonHey Likewisers! Over the past seven to eight years I have slowly become more aware of the justice issues in the world today while simultaneously realizing that the Bible has a lot to say about seeking justice. As I did more research and learned more about faith and justice, I attempted to discipline my life into one that sought to love others with my every action. I found little to direct this pursuit within the evangelical world and so started sharing what I discovered with others. Many of my friends who grew up in the church had never heard that the Bible implores us to love others by seeking justice for them.

Everyday Justice is a result of my desire to share what I have learned and how I have applied it to my life with other believers. I think many Christians care about justice issues, but they don’t know exactly what those are or how they should be applied to their faith. This book provides an introduction to how and why as believers we are to seek justice in our everyday lives.

Everyday Justice
Factoid #1
(Check back here in the next few issues for more things you probably didn't know but probably want to.)

Coffee Guy"The 2008 minimum fair-trade price for coffee was set at $1.26 per pound (as compared to the average rate of $0.60-$0.70 per pound typically paid to coffee farmers). This price . . . covers the cost of production for most famers and is a decent living wage for many."

What you can do:
• Buy fair trade
• Ask your local stores to carry fairly traded items
• Get your church to serve fair trade coffee
• Raise awareness (forwarding this email might be one good way to do that)

Justice Can Be Fun!
If you think working for justice every day is stressful, check out this photo of Julie and her daugher sharing a fair trade s'more. See, justice IS fun!
