Dear Gardeners: Autumn colors are bursting out in a blaze of glory from tree tops all the way down to the littlest garden plants. Fill your garden with fall's warmest and spiciest colors for a cornucopia of delicious botanical treats. From January to December it's easy to deck out your garden with autumnal oranges, yellows, and reds. Whether spring, summer, or fall these colors are always loaded with appeal. The quintessential perennial with flowers saturated with end-of-season color has got to be the Gaillardia, or Blanket Flower. The classic Gaillardia 'Goblin' is bright hot red and yellow, but the more subdued 'Oranges and Lemons is smothered in tones of lemon and sherbet orange. For rusty red-maple flowers seek out the Burgundy Gaillardia... it's a no-fail performer with flowers from spring until frost. To infuse your garden with other flowers in pumpkin and harvest tones, look to the Daylily called 'Night Embers', whose double flowers are deep-dark rusty red. The beefy German Iris 'Rustler' is another stunner that incorporates orange, red, brown, and purple for the ultimate display. And who can forget the Coneflower called 'Harvest Moon'? The ethereal mellow yellow blooms glow in the garden all season long! Happy Gardening, |
