Conservation Activities

Working with grants from foundations and private individuals, we are tackling interior conservation projects. The living room rugs, designed by Charles Greene, needed help and are now receiving it. Three of the smaller area rugs have been cleaned, repaired, conserved, and replaced in the living room; the large central rug is next. When the first rug returned from its facelift, the improvement was striking, with brighter colors and clearer images. As each item is cleaned and repaired the original beauty becomes even more apparent.

Stay tuned for news on the long-awaited landscape project!

Gamble House Tidbit
By early 1909, the newly-constructed Gamble House was ready for occupation. The builders, brothers  John and Peter Hall, completed this monument of detailed design and craftsmanship in 10 months -- an amazing feat for the time, and a figure that still makes one gasp. The furniture arrived throughout that year, as each piece was designed and built especially for a particular room  or position in the House.
