November'09 - Beermerchants Brewsletter - great beer right to your door!

Beermerchants Brewsletter - November '09 02/09/2010

FAO: <<Email Address>>

We've really changed over the last couple of years, one major thing has been happening over the last couple of months, plus great beers, winners and more beer, and even more beer! read on to find out.

Big cheery hello to all the new fans, followers and importantly customers of Beermerchants. It's been a crazy couple of years, considering that we really only started kicking into gear early in January 2007!

Sat here typing away, actually drinking a fantastic Southern Tier Iniquity, hearing the comments, love and recomendations every day, from the diverse methods of communication that we love, just makes us want to strive for more and more for you all.

Looking back, highlights have been bringing the Mikkeller, Lost Abbey, Alesmith, Jolly Pumpkin, Founders, et al incredible craft beers. The new, old and classic from Belgium, from Struise thru to the super Trappist brews and the success of all the gueuze that we've brought on... (There are a bunch of new offers below, but there is great intro to American Craft Beer case, an exceptional bargain!) This is not stopping, but please don't miss out, because, some of these beers, when they're gone, they may not be back for a while or if ever!

I can't even begin to express thanks to those that have helped raise our profile, it's been shared by so many people, many many people to list, please don't feel left out, please stop by and read their blogs, sites etc: Joe & The Ratebeerians, BeerAdvocates, Mark Dredge's Pencil and Spoon (twitter/blog) ; Simon @The Reluctant Scooper (twitter/blog), Andy Mogg at Beer Reviews(twitter/blog), Maeib, Andy and Ian at the PubsandBeer.co.uk(website), Zak Avery(twitter/blog), the Beer Vikings (check out their video below!), Kirsty, Hopzine... Beer-Life.co.uk... so many!! it's crazy the comunity out there. Upbeat, willing to share, inform and spread the word of great beer, it's a labour of love that's so important to everything about beer. Long may it last!

So, The biggest thing that we've been working on has started to roll out over the last couple of months. It's been a monumental shift in what we've been doing. We're now shipping to Europe!! This IS something worthy of two exclamation marks. Yes, dear beer lover sitting in Athens, you can now browse the site, and you'll get the beers just as someone sitting in Ashford, Aberdeen, Aintree.. or wherever else. It's been fun watching the orders come in, shipping out and the tracking data saying "ARRIVED". We've out of curiosity been google mapping some of the destinations, quite fun to see! For a complete, and growing list of destinations just check the site. We've been quiet about all this, perhaps one post on our blog at best, solely because we wanted to make double sure that the system that we've engaged into is suitable and most importantly, secure. Shipping to the fringes of Europe has been incredibly exciting, a new challenge and brought a completely new set of requests and demands on the company, and so far so good. It's been a fun challenge, don't thank me, thank yourselves for the idea/demand and Anthony and Louise for bringing it together!

The European changes to Beermerchants.com sit so well in our simple wish to open up a whole new world of experiences and give you a more informed choice about what is available to buy from great breweries around the world. We just want you to be able to enjoy beer!

It's certainly getting closer to Christmas, damn festive tunes are appearing in my local highstreet all too quickly!? such are the book releases that are coming thick and fast. I have been flexing my reading muscles recently, I wholeheartedly recommend the Belgian Beer Guide, Around Brussels in 80 beers and the excellent Hops and Glory as Christmas prezzies. You can check the reviews on our blog. Are you a Facebook User? We're doing a special for our fan base, don't miss out.

American Craft Beer is really solid, exciting and truly fun. We have been championing some wonderful American Craft beers, especially some seriously rare, sought after brews... these aren't necessarily in the domain of the beer aware. So, what we've done is put a selection of classics together so you can lead into the monsters below... We've popped a couple of the bigger beers into the mix so you can, at your leisure have a go at what's drawing such great noise -

We've put together a bargain of a case for those that perhaps might not have bumped into the exciting world of American Craft Beer. This case is for those who're looking for something of an intro, perhaps even to fill the fridge with a little hopiness? CLICK ME

St. Margarets Bay, in Kent. yes, that place where your mobile phone switches to French phone signal... much to the amusement of all the staff. More interesting is the incredible backdrop and vista that surrounds this award winning pub. Sometimes you can forget just how beautiful this place location is.

Nestled is a great word for this pub, tucked in a corner of a bay, that is probably the closest point to france, where you can also enjoy well tended cask ales, and a fantastic selection of bottled ale and lagers, from Trappist Breweries through to the delights of Mikkeller brews.

Top the world class views, great local ales, their bottled beer range, on their award winning dishes centred on locally sourced produce, I am proud to have this place as my local as much as let you know about it too!

Here's the links - no point giving you a google map, their post code doesn't refer to the locale. Take my advice, stop at the bottom of the hill just before you get wet, and turn right. You'll see it.

THE REST OF THE BEST:

Want to keep up to date with the special offers - click me but, below we're going to try to keep you up to date with what's coming in and more often than not flying out the depot doors.

We've got a few of new beers in this month, Dark Reserve from Lovibonds and Hopus from Lefebrvre, Adnams Innovation and a new Mikkeller IPA, GIPA!

Lefebvre HopusHopus - A new hoppy belgian blonde ale, that's really setting the pace for new hoppy belgian blonde ales. Love XX bitter, you'll love this too! There are 5 different hops used in this beer, a complex, soft, flowery balance. Notable Belgian beer writers are listing this as a cross over between the likes of XX bitter, Duvel and a good tripel. Has the one of the largest head I have ever seen on a beer, only very slightly cloudy golden. the head falls slowely and leaves great lacing. Clear hop aroma, very clean, sweet start that changes quickly to a hop finish.. If you like this, you should try Hopsinjoor and XX bitter

Dark Reserve - Barrel aged beers are very on the moment, it's been a real testiment to the ideas and knowledge that this one brewer has brought to the British Brewing Scene. We've become big fans of what Jeff does down in Henley. Dark ReserveI had a great day down there with Mark of Pencil and Spoon, and @Terry_Tibbs -listening to tales of IPA on sea, from Pete Brown. In fact, there are so few genuine Barrel aged brews about, it's really quite exciting to get these beers to you. Lovibond's Dark Reserve is 7.4% dark ale made with a blend of seven malts, including one that's been smoked. It's been at home in whisky barrels for six months. Only 500 75cl bottles have been produced. It's really a nice espresso, chocolate, raisin, smokey delight.Certainly not cheap, but this is a beer that should never be, and great value! Dark Reserve

There will be Adnams Innovation and Mikkeller GIPA available asap. It's here, just been popped up on the web. As for the Innovation, We're, well, I am incredibly excited to have this beer on Beermerchants.com. Grab them whilst you can, er, when you can.
