Welcome to our NEW newsletter!
Helllo dancers and dance enthusiasts! Welcome to the NEW monthly newsletter from Evansville Bellydance. From kicking it in Atlanta with some of the finest male dancers in the world, to dancing in the streets of Evansville and Owensboro, to eating our fill of falafal and lamb at the Middle Eastern festival in Indianapolis, we've had a busy and fun summer! Now we're gearing up for Back to School (bellydance style!) with new classes and lots of road trips!
New Classes begin August 5, 2010
Beginning Belly Dance "Boot Camp"
Level 1 class (5:45 to 6:45)
In this 6-week class, beginners will learn the basic rhythms and corresponding movements of Arabic style belly dance, while those who have completed a 6-week Boot Camp class will have the opportunity to focus on improving their technique and musical understanding. This class will culminate in a short choreography for home practice. This class is suitable for both brand-new beginners and those students who have previously completed a Boot Camp class.
This class meets on Thursdays, from 5:45-6:45pm.
Choreography
Level 2 Belly Dance class (7:00 to 8:30)
The focus of this next 6-week session will be an upbeat Stick Dance choreography, commonly known as Raqs al Assaya. Students will learn modern Cairo style Assaya as well as the contrasting traditional Saidi style. Full choregraphy notes will be available, with modifications for different skill levels. This class is suitable for students who have previously been enrolled in a Level 2 class, or for those who have completed the Level 1 syllabus.
This class meets on Thursdays, from 7:00-8:30pm.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT CLASSES
What does it cost?
All of our classes are taught in 6-week sessions. The 6-week session consists of 6 one-hour classes, one class a week. The total fee for the class is $60, which is payable at the first class.
Where do we meet?
Classes are held at the Evansville Dance Theatre (333 Plaza East Blvd.) on Evansville's East Side (in the same building with Acros Gymnastics.) EDT's website shows a map: http://www.edtdance.org/
What do I wear?
Something comfortable. Most of our students wear something like yoga pants and tank tops. Please don't wear something overly baggy like a big T-shirt. We need to be able to see the line of your body. You can take class barefoot or in soft ballet or jazz slippers. Please, no street shoes on the dance floor.
I'm overweight/underweight or out of shape. Can I still take class?
Of course you can!!! Belly dance is for women of all shapes and sizes! There is no such thing as "too much belly" or "too little belly" for this class.
Can my daughter/niece take class with me?
We do not currently offer children's classes for young students, but it can be a great bonding experience for the mature teen or tween to learn belly dance with Mom.
Can I bring my husband/boyfriend?
Sorry, but no. Our students have requested that we not allow this.
If you are considering signing up for classes, but would like to see what the class is like first, please email us and we can arrange for you to observe a class.
We hope to see you in class! If you have any questions, please feel free to email us or give me a call at (812) 454-0756.
Thanks and Shimmy on!
