Dear <<First Name>>, We are pleased to announce the release of another research monograph from the 2009-2010 research agenda to the public. Please read below for more details.
The Open Publishing Guide—Development: Phase Two by Patricia Albanese, Gannet Distinguished Professor, School of Print Media and Co-Director, Open Publishing Lab; Matthew Bernius, Co-Director, Open Publishing Lab; and Rachael Gootnick, Project Lead, Open Publishing Guide. The report shares the findings obtained from the qualitative and quantitative data gathered from November 2008 through August 2009. These data were obtained from a wide variety of sources, including Google Analytics, feedback from one-on-one user tests, comments e-mailed in from site visitors, and interactions with individuals at various public presentations of the OPG. Key points include: - General feedback on the OPG’s content is good, but overall web traffic to the site remains low. Approaches to increasing traffic include online advertising and in-person outreach efforts, such as the talk given at the Henrietta, NY public library and the presentation at the O’Reilly Tools of Change conference. Other approaches to increase the site’s visibility are also discussed.
- The OPG faces multiple challenges in its ongoing operations, which include the lack of an ongoing funding plan. The OPG has begun some experiments with community-generated content and editing, but this has yet to prove itself as a sustainable method for content update. Other approaches to keep the site funded are also discussed.
