A selection of Advertising Tips
In the past, many small businesses have paid for advertising in certain local directories. What many don’t realise is there are a number of websites that provide no costs listings in a place potential customers look first, the Internet. Here are a number of sites to get you started; Thanks to Google Maps and some information lifted from the Yellow Pages, there may already be information about your company that is appearing in the Google search results. You may yourself have seen this. When you search for a particular sort of business in a specific place, you are often presented with a map along with a list of providers who fit the bill. These maps really grab the attention of anyone presented with them. To start with, because they are a visual representation they stand out from all the other text on the page. Second, since they provide specific map based information to someone who has searched for a specific business type in a local area, they are likely to be extremely relevant to the searcher’s query. These listings are compiled from a database called ‘Google local’, or ‘Google Business Centre’. Since people are finding information about your business in this way, it makes sense to take control of those listings and to expand or improve them. The first thing to do is make sure the information is factually correct and up to date. However, you can provide additional incentives for people to both look at your listing and then follow that up by looking at your website or visiting your physical shop. These extra incentives might include photos of your business or a relevant topic, your business hours and coupons or money off vouchers. Standard Business Listings from Yelldirect.com is a great way to get started. Their standard business listings get your basic business contact details listed on Yell.com, in Yellow Pages and on 118 247. Standard Business Listings are at no cost, but you can also pay for enhanced listings. You can add your business to ThomsonLocal.com and in Thomson Local for no cost by completing their simple form. Your details will be added without charge to their Business Database. Their Business Database is mainly used for publishing Directories: The Thomson Local, on Thomsonlocal.com and for Directory Enquiries. Brownbook.net is the no cost local business directory that anyone can edit. They're building a global business directory that anyone can participate in. You can add business listings, update them and review businesses instantly. It's an ambitious project and one that you can contribute to. If you own a business you can claim your business listing for a small charge and promote it in Brownbook.net with additional text, photos and videos, plus you get alerted any time someone reviews your business. Your listing in Brownbook.net helps your website's ranking on the major search engines too, so you'll get found more, not just in Brownbook.net but all over the web.
