NEW BOARD WELCOME

Last week, MVSA members voted in a new board.  2010-2011 will be yet another year of  time-tested experience for Mission Valley parents.  Suman Gill, who served two terms previously as a Vice President, took her place as President last Tuesday.  She is joined by Paul Rogers and Charlotte Yee as Vice Presidents, Anne Rogers and Vijay Anisetti as Tresurers and Susan Hu as Corresponding Secretary.  The board is also fortunate to have both Filiz Crocker and Laura Burgess as advisors in the coming year.  Parents wishing to convey their suggestions and concerns may reach the board at its permanent address of board@mvsa-fremont.org, or board individuals by their first name followed by @mvsa-fremont.org.

HOW AWESOME ARE YOU?

Pretty darn awesome.  Web statistics indicate that  MVSA subscribers open their e-mail letters at a rate three times greater than the national average.

COULD YOU BE MORE AWESOME?

Well, now that you mention it. . . In the next few days, you'll be receiving an email noting your status as (1) an E-scrip supporter, (2) a lapsed member who needs to renew, or (3) a potential member needing to register your Safeway Card etc. with E-scrip.   Also remember, you can always ask your parents and friends to register Mission Valley as their recipient if they aren't already utilizing E-scrip for another school.

GET INVOLVED

As the 2009-2010 year winds down, your MVSA Board is already busy at work preparing for next year.  We have a number of open positions for committee leaders and will train members willing to support and supplement our children's educational experience at Mission Valley.

On this subject, this Friday, the Safety Patrol Committee will be holding a meeting and seeks your input.  Committee member Poonam Kaul writes:

Hello parents
This year, working at the school's Safety Committee has been extremely educational. The school's safety committee is led by Dr. Bossi, designated teachers and has couple of parent representatives.
It manages number of tasks to keep the school prepared for handling emergiencies. The committee has been busy checking emergency backpacks in classrooms and filling them with required supplies. Some of you might have noticed a big shed in the school playground - it houses number of items for teachers & students to use in case of an emergency.  The school also assigns specific roles to designated teachers and students to coordinate activities during a disaster. Have you ever wondered, what are you supposed to do in case we have an emergency at school (earthquake, lockdown…). How do you get your kid? Should you have given some medications or supplies for your kid ahead of time? Is there somehting you can do (ahead of time) to prepare your kids, classrooms and ensure the school is ready to take on such a challenge.  School's Safety Preparation is one area that you would not want to ignore or take lightly.  Now that the STAR testing is over, MVSA would like to invite all parents to an informal session with the parent represetnatives of Safety Committee. We can share what we have learnt, and would encourage more parents to get educated and make a difference.
DATE: Friday May 21st TIME: 3:15pm LOCATION: Multi Use Room

For those more technically inclined, your board also seeks individuals willing to work on improving our electronic communication mechanism at Mission Valley.  Specifically, we are looking for web designers and programmers with a working knowledge of common open-source systems such as PHP and MySql, was well as detail-oriented spreadsheet users willing to spend some time updating our records and compiling a consolidated subscriber database.  If this sounds like you, and you're willing to devote an hour or two a week to the task, contact charlotte@mvsa-fremont.org.
