| November 2009 Newsletter Welcome, Jeff Garrison-Tate! Jeff Garrison-Tate recently came on board with the Center on Disability and Development as a Project Coordinator. Jeff has supported people with disability labels and their families for over 25 years. He has worked at Advocacy, Inc., the Arc of Texas and as Executive Director of a early childhood intervention organization. He is a frequent presenter and has published several articles on inclusive communities. He is also one of the founders of Community Now!, a statewide non-profit organization with a mission to ensure all people with disabilities are included in their communities. Jeff and Ginny recently relocated from Seguin along with their children: Charlotte, 20, Grace, 7, and Eleanor, 4 months. They also have two sons, Joey and Jake, who attend Texas State University in San Marcos. “I am thrilled to have this opportunity to work with such talented people at Texas A&M," Jeff says. "I hope that I will be able to contribute to the great work at the Center to support Texans with disabilities to live in their communities.”
Texas AgrAbility Website Goes Live Texas AgrAbility, a new project funded through the USDA, focuses on assisting, connecting and empowering agricultural producers, their families and employees with disabilities and chronic health conditions stay engaged in production agriculture. Check out their new website for resources and information at txagrability.tamu.edu.
Search, Add, and Edit Resources on the Directory The interactive Directory of Community Resources in Texas continues to grow, now with over 3,400 resource listings! With improved functionality, you can run a customized search for resources, and even add or edit resources by creating a free account. If you're in charge of an organization, consider adding a link to the Directory from your website.
Registration Open for Texas Transition Conference in Feb. 2010 It's not too late to get in for the Early Bird Registration discount (through Nov. 24, 2009). The Texas Transition Conference (TTC) is an annual three-day conference that equips individuals with transition information in the hopes of improving outcomes for postsecondary opportunities for youth with disabilities. Register for the conference. The Center on Disability and Development is focused on improving education services and outcomes and enhancing community quality of life for individuals with disabilities and their families through research, education, and service.
