Texas YLF Trains 32 High Schoolers With Disabilities
During the week of July 26, a group of rising high school juniors and seniors with disabilities from across Texas attended this year's Texas Statewide Youth Leadership Forum in Austin. The YLF delegates were selected through a competitive application process. Through leadership training and legislative experiences, YLF’s goal is to develop youth into leaders who advocate for persons with disabilities and influence policy development.  Fall Camp LIFE Is Set for Oct. 1–3; Applications Open
Held twice a year at the accessible facilities of Camp for All, Camp LIFE (Leadership, Independence and Friends through Experiences) is designed for children with disabilities between the ages of 5 and 21 and their siblings. Camper and counselor applications are now available on the Camp LIFE website and will be accepted until all spots are filled. REDD Publishes Updated Disaster Resources Guides
To assist emergency responders and the general public in preparing for disaster during this year's hurricane season, Project REDD (Research and Education on Disability and Disaster) has updated its resource guides. Staff News: National Presentation and Two Teaching Awards
Dr. Laura Stough has been selected to give a presentation at the Southwest Conference on Disability to be held Oct. 6–8 in Albuquerque, NM. Stough will present data on the long-term recovery of individuals with disabilities three years after Hurricane Katrina. Her focus will be on the individuals' experiences with a loss of social supports and how this influenced their recovery.
Dr. Jeni Ganz is among professors who received Texas A&M University System's Spring 2010 Teaching Excellence Awards. The Teaching Excellence Awards were initiated by Chancellor Michael D. McKinney in 2008 to honor and financially reward the system’s top teachers as selected by students. All faculty members who teach at least a 3-hour course are eligible to receive the award.
Dr. Dalun Zhang received the 2010 College-Level AFS Distinguished Achievement Awards for Teaching. This award recognizes outstanding teachers whose commitment to student development exemplifies the meaning of teacher/mentor in its highest level.

Over 55 Texas A&M University System faculty and staff attended the annual Summer Institute (SI), conducted by the Disability Training Network. This year's event was held June 28 and 29 in Dallas/Fort Worth. SI is a professional development opportunity designed for those who interact with students with disabilities.
