"WASHINGTON ROB" GOES WALL STREET
Glading Calls on Andrews to Return Goldman Sachs Campaign Contributions
BARRINGTON, NJ – First District Congressional Candidate Dale Glading (R-Barrington) slammed Rep. Rob Andrews today for his decades-long connections with notorious Wall Street firms.
“For more than 10 years, Rob Andrews has been receiving cash campaign contributions from Wall Street investment firms totaling in excess of $120,000.00," stated Glading. “Rob also cashed checks from insurance companies for another $188,000.00 and from commercial banks for an additional sum of $85,000.00.”
“To think that these companies weren’t trying to buy favor and preferential treatment from Congressman Andrews would be extremely naïve,” Glading continued. “In fact, Rob recently admitted how much influence special interest groups have in Washington at a town hall in Blackwood.” ("Andrews faces health measure critics”, Courier Post, April 20, 2010).
Congressman Andrews’ FEC campaign reports reveal that he has received $18,000 from Goldman Sachs since 2000. Goldman Sachs, formerly headed by long-time Andrews’ political ally and former New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine, is currently under investigation by a Senate committee for unethical business dealings that helped precipitated the financial collapse of 2008 and the deep recession that followed. Andrews even admitted interviewing for a position with Goldman Sachs following his failed senatorial race against U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg in 2008. ("Andrews Breaks His Word, and That's Not Good," Steve Adubato, http://www.caucusnj.org/adubato/2008/08-0904.asp).
In addition to the large donations he received from Goldman Sachs, Andrews was also forced to disclose that he cashed checks from other failed investment firms such as Morgan Stanley ($13,000); J.P. Morgan ($12,000); and Merrill Lynch ($3,500).
“I call on Rob Andrews to return any and all campaign contributions he has received from Wall Street and to stop selling his office's services to the highest bidder,” Glading demanded. “The First District Congressional seat belongs to the people of South Jersey - not the crooked financial moguls that populate Wall Street, fill the campaign coffers of career politicians, and wreak economic havoc on Main Street.”
"South Jersey taxpayers are tired of Rob pretending to represent their interests when all this time, he's been bought and paid for by Wall Street investment bankers," Glading concluded. “You can't accept campaign contributions from discredited Wall Street firms with one hand and pretend to 'regulate' them with the other."
