“Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock.
The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear.
The angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.’
And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: ‘Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.’”

Merry Christmas everyone! The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid.” Don’t you want to say that to the guests of Our Daily Bread when you see them? Isn’t that what we want to say to ourselves: “Don’t be afraid, it’s going to be ok. Jesus the Messiah is with us.” It isn’t easy for the poor and homeless to be comforted by the good news that God is with us, when many times their experiences create a quite different reality. Through your relationship with Our Daily Bread, you share the comfort and joy of Christmas with our guests so that they might experience a sense of peace, justice and love that God wills for us. Glory to God in the highest…and peace to you all.

Ho, Ho, Ho! Santa Claus came to town! On Wednesday of last week, Santa and his helpers visited Our Daily Bread with gifts for our guests. Executive Director Mary Beth Peters S.C. and board member Andrew Brunsman dressed up as Santa and helper for 224 of our guests. Folks from Microsoft were the jolly elves of Santa’s Workshop set up in Kids Café. Our guests could choose a gift for someone, or themselves, and then have it gift wrapped for Christmas. The gifts were donations collected throughout the year that included sweaters, coats, hats and gloves. One of our guests brought his wrapped gift into the office and opened it with us, maybe so he had someone to share his excitement with. Special thanks to the all the people from Microsoft who helped make Santa’s Workshop a wonderful event for our guests.
