“While I know myself as a creation of God, I am also obligated to realize and remember that everyone else and everything else are also God’s creation.” ~ Maya Angelou

How in the world is everyone? Good I hope. Some bits of news from Our Daily Bread:

The Charles H. Dater Foundation makes grants to non-profit organizations in the Greater Cincinnati area to carry out projects that benefit children. Since 1997, the Dater Foundation has been a wonderful benefactor to Our Daily Bread and the Kid’s Café program. Our Daily Bread was just awarded a new grant from the Foundation. On behalf of all of us at Our Daily Bread, especially the children from the Kids Café, thank you to Mr. Bruce Krone and the Board Directors of the Charles H. Dater Foundation for this generous gift.

“The staff and volunteers at Our Daily Bread not only have good hearts…. they have good moves!!” That from Bob Herzog of WKRC Good Morning Cincinnati about his visit to Our Daily Bread to film a “Dance Party to Go” segment. Movin’ and groovin’ to the song 'Chain of Fools', Mr. Herzog, our staff, and our volunteers danced their way through the Our Daily Bread kitchen. As a surprise (or shock!) for Mr. Herzog, our dancers donned Bob Herzog masks toward the end of the dance, to which Mr. Herzog laughingly exclaimed, “one of me is enough!” After seeing the piece, John Gumm, the Good Morning Cincinnati Meteorologist, told the morning team on air that he wanted to get a hold of a “Bob Herzog Mask.” Not to disappoint, Mary Beth sent some “Bob” masks to down to the WKRC studio to John’s attention. It was great fun and good publicity for the Our Daily Bread Soul of the City Soiree Fundraiser. Special thanks to Bob Herzog, his camera man, Richard, and everyone at WKRC Good Morning Cincinnati. If you missed the segment that aired last Friday, October 9th, you can still view it by going to www.local12.com and doing a search for “Dance Party to Go, Our Daily Bread.”

October is a beautiful time of the year in the Ohio Valley. As the trees are beginning to gift us with spectacular autumn color, inside Our Daily Bread is alive in green…from beautiful green ferns donated to Our Daily Bread by one of our volunteers, Tony Seiwert and his wife Carol. The ferns were nurtured during the spring and summer months outside the Seiwerts home where they grew to a size you might see in a rain forest. But with the cooler weather upon us, the ferns had to either be left to die or be brought inside. It was our good fortune that Tony and Carol thought of Our Daily Bread and brought them in for us to enjoy. Tony spent a couple mornings hanging the ferns in various parts of the dining area and office. When it gets cold and gray outside this winter, inside Our Daily Bread will be teeming with green life, a welcome respite for our guests. Thanks so much Tony and Carol. The ferns are amazing.

Something to think about: “The most satisfying thing in life is to have been able to give a large part of one's self to others.” ~ Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Paul
