A personal message from Steve Hay - Chief Instructor Welcome to the first edition of the Krav Systems Newsletter. I created Krav Systems in 2005 when I identified a need for quality reality based self defence in the West Midlands. I researched literally hundreds of systems and on my quest I discovered Krav Maga and the rest is history. It's a very exciting time for Krav Systems as we have grown to the stage where I can no longer keep in regular personal contact with all my students. This newsletter will be a way of keeping you all informed about news, developments and events etc. You have received this newsletter as at some stage you have given us your email address regarding Krav Maga.

Free taster sessions!
To raise the awareness of Krav Maga we are giving everyone the chance to experience Krav Maga training themselves. Over the next few months all our regular class venues will host a free taster session. It doesn't matter if you are completely new to Krav Maga, an ex student looking to return to training or a student from another martial art who just wants to see what we do, you will all be welcome at one of our free sessions. Please see our website for full details of locations and timings etc, but in short the sessions will be as follows:
- 12th Sept 1200 New Halesowen Venue
- 17th October 1000 Coventry Venue (TBC)
- 14th November 1000 Bromsgrove Venue (TBC)
Further sessions will also be held in the new year. If you would like a free taster held at your club/business etc, then please get in touch, if it's viable we will do it! Training Focus - Front choke defense. The front choke defence is one of the first techniques we learn. It's especially relevant as the level of threat is very high - I.E. if you do not escape it is potentially fatal. Chokes and strangulations feature in a large proportion of violent assaults in the UK especially if you are attacked by someone you know.
The escape contains all the main principles of Krav Maga making it doubly a good place to start learning: - Don't get hurt!
- Go from defending to attacking as soon as possible - In this case the defence and first counter attack are simultaneous.
- Hand defence and Body defence giving a 200% defence. The hand defence is a dynamic plucking motion aimed at the the weak part of the attacker's grip - The thumbs. The body defence is simply leaning backwards. This removes your throat from the danger and counter balances you for a knee strike or shin kick to the groin dependent on range.
