News Letter November 2009

The Highlander Mountain Marathon is now open for entry and will take place on the 10th and 11th April 2010

"The final permissions have just fallen into place for another great area for the 2010 Highlander Mountain Marathon. The planners are frothing at the mouth in their excitement about getting to organise courses in this part of the Highlands, and we hope you'll enjoy tackling them (the courses, not the planners) as much as we enjoy thinking them up,  Without giving too much away, we can promise that you'll be amongst some very fine scenery, with some of the country's most famous mountains around - there'll be a few Munros and Corbetts in view, and a well known loch nearby...The terrain is quite rugged and tough underfoot, although there will be some runnable moorland areas too.  The overnight camp promises to be a little unusual, and no doubt we'll dream up some surprises to keep you on your toes during the daytime.  The HMM Weather Fairy is already hard at work getting optimum climatic conditions sorted for the event so that you get to enjoy the area at its best.
So sign up for a great weekend, keep up the training, and make sure you're ready for what we hope will be our best event yet." Alec Keith Cpntroller 2010

"I am delighted that the Bike Wear House will be mobile for 2010 – there is nothing better than getting out and about meeting our customers actually doing what they love doing – as most of us active sorts hate to go shopping what better way to pick up those bits and pieces we need than to collect them at an event !!!  We have a great selection of cycle clothing and in our mobile unit you will be able to view and buy a small selection of what we have available in the shop – things such as shorts and bibshorts, jackets, tights, shoes, baselayers, hats and gloves will always be available in case you forget to pack them or just fancy treating yourself after your fantastic efforts of the day.  Other products we will bring along are 2XU compression clothing, SIS Gels and Powders, Zym electrolyte drink,  Honey Stinger gels and bars, Body Glide anti chaffing cream, Elite Warmup cream, Chamios Cream, Windose booster products, spare tubes, tyres, socks, CO2 pumps, refill CO2, pumps, sunglasses, lock laces and much much more !!!  We can also deliver items to you at an event that you have ordered through our website.

I look forward to meeting you all in 2010 and wish you a ‘good winter’ in terms of training.  Don’t forget we sell gift vouchers – so if your family are stuck for what to get you ask them to contact me, Jeanette"

Haglöfs Supports the Highlander Mountain Marathon!

In the words of Chris Near (one of the Country’s leading fellrunners and winner of the A class of the Highlander in 2007 and 2008):
“ The Highlander is without doubt the best UK Mountain Marathon. It is a fantastic event in some of the best mountain scenery that Britain has to offer, and is unique in that it offers competitors a real highland experience (marquee with Ceilidh band, hot food and beer at the overnight camp).”
The 2010 event, which takes place on 10/11th April, will see the Swedish outdoor brand Haglöfs partnering the Highlander to encourage new entrants. Haglöfs, with it’s Intense range of products, is the perfect partner for this high endurance event, having already secured sponsorship agreements with Chris and his fellow team mate Tim Higginbottom earlier on in the year.
The bar is high though, as the demands from the Scottish weather and the tough mountainous backdrop make the Highlander an event not for the faint hearted.
