#7- Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of 2009
Each December Wine Spectator releases their most highly anticipated issue the "Wine Spectator Top 100". This list of the "best of the best" (according to WS) sends wine geeks the world over into a frenzy clamoring for wines that in most cases evaporated off of the retail shelves months ago.
At Bin Ends we typically don't pay all that much attention to the Top 100 as we choose our inventory off of a wines merits and value rather than which elite list it lands on. If we have a few... cool... all the
better.
It just so happens that we had pre-ordered a seven case allocation of Renato Ratti's stunning 2005 Barolo Marcenasco. Ratings aside, Ratti's reputation is top notch and this wine from the insanely good 2005 vintage would be one of the best value's of the year with or without a single piece of press. Barolo under $50 is almost unheard of these days, and for a Barolo of this quality. Never. Beyond this , John managed the brand for MS Walker for years, he knows the property, he knows the owners, and he buys every drop he can.
So there it is. #7 on WS Top 100, 96 Points, $45 retail, top vintage in years, and one of our true favorites.
The bad news? Just 84 bottles available. Act F-A-S-T-!
Note: This is a pre-arrival, The wine will arrive at our warehouse on Friday 12/17. Delivery by 12/23 guaranteed.

"This fabulous Nebbiolo displays aromas of very ripe strawberry and cappuccino. Full-bodied, with supervelvety tannins and incredible concentration. All the tannins are coated with gorgeous fruit. Best after 2013. 5,000 cases made." –Wine Spectator | 96 Points
"This Piedmont red comes from the Ratti family's hillside vineyards known as Marcenasco, below the village of La Morra. The 25-year-old vines are planted on steep slopes facing west, providing the Nebbiolo maximum exposure for optimum ripening. The Rattis recently completed construction of an ultramodern winery, which has enabled them to fine-tune the winemaking. After fermentation, the wine is aged in a mix of Slovenian oak casks and smaller, neutral oak barrels." -Wine Spectator | #7 Top 100 Wines of 2009
