Calvet-Thunevin Cotes du Roussillon "Les Dentelles" 2004
I'd venture to say that Bin Ends has become the Cotes du Roussillon retail capital of the world. Actually maybe it's the Grenache capital. Either way our fans are loving these incredible wines from France and Spain. Quality is extreme and the offers match. The 2004 "Les Dentelles" is a delicious style. Maybe not screaming of terroir like many from this region, but it's almost impossible not to love this wine. It's purely about enjoyment, no pretentious overtones, just unadultered fruit decadence. Rich... in fact, explosive! Sweet crushed berry fruit mingles with toasty chocolate, and vanilla derived from a liberal use of oak aging. Polished, round, plump and delicious. Great stuff! 91 Points | The Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Les Dentelles – a blend of Grenache and Carignan (presumably with the legally requisite splash of Syrah) – displays a sweetly enticing nose of candied essences of cassis, black raspberry, mint, caramel and chocolate. Undeniably sweet and flamboyant in its oak-engendered accents of vanilla, toast, and coconut, this seamlessly rich Roussillon red is remarkably polished and viscous in texture and lingering in finish. But close attention reveals underlying suggestions of firm tannin and stoniness, and it will be most interesting to chart its evolution over the next several years.
