RENEW & REVIVE
Hello <<First Name>>
What a difference a month makes.
How did you get on with our first lifestyle tip? Did you feel any different? I'd love to know the good and the bad of going cold turkey on sugar addiction.
Altering the habits of a life time takes patience. If you fell off the wagon and had a choccy muffin or can of coke, Don't panic! Live by the 80:20 rule. If you eat and move well 80% of the time, your body will be able to handle the odd curve ball you throw at it. The main aim is to start with a healthy and balanced foundation.
This month sees lots of exciting things happening for Karmea and our clients.
August brings change for Karmea. We have launched our new logo (more of the ethos behind the design below), and we are almost ready to start receiving orders for our new clothing range. Watch out for an email in the next week, we love the design and hope you do to.
This issue of Energy has organic lifestyle tips, cooking classes with the Organic Cook, free massage for Karmea clients and an update from the Primal Challenge that took place a few weekends ago.
I hope this month's Energy renews and revitalises you.
Yours in health and happiness,
Sarah Anne
KARMEA HAS EVOLVED
Our new logo has been launched this month, and we just love it.
While we loved the energy of the old design we felt it was time to encompass the holistic ethos of Karmea in a more solid and grounded incarnation.

The birth of the new K sphere logo represents our philosophy of the 4 elements required for a health and long life.
Earth = Nutrition
- fuel for life, vitality and health
Water = Hydration
- water for purity, cleansing and energy
Fire = Movement
- essential for a healthy body and mind
Air = Breathe
- the power behind our movements, the essence to our renewal
The 4 segments are linked together by the strong Karmea K.
We hope that you like the new look of Karmea as much as we do.
Huge thanks go to Mark Coleman of Visual MC for his hard work and dedication. www.visualmc.com
LIFESTYLE TIP #2 - ORGANIC
So? How did you get on with cutting out Sugar last month? How's the skin looking? How are the energy levels now that your body has readjusted?
This month's lifestyle tip is all about the benefits of eating organic foods.
Remember to try each of the tips for one month starting from the day you receive this newsletter. We'd love to hear how small changes are making a big difference in your lifestyle.

Things To Know:
You are, quite literally, what you eat. The cells in our bodies replicate and renew every hour of every day. Cells are only as healthy as the food we fuel them with. This includes every thing your food comes into contact with (including what it eats and what it's grown in) before you buy it, cook it and eat it.
Non-organic fruit and vegetable are grown in soil that can lack up to 87% of the natural nutrients that is required to grow natural, healthy, tasty food. Pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers and fungicides are added during the growing period. These are ingested every time we eat and can be made more toxic when subjected to heat as we cook.
A non-organic apple can be found to contain chemicals that are carcinogenic, that impare the immune system and also disrupt endocrine and reproductive systems.
Non-organic meat comes from animals often fed on diets that are not natural to them. Animals are fed sub-standard grains to fatten them up for market. They are also injected with growth hormones to increase mass which makes them unhealthy and ill. In turn they are then given antibiotics to stop them from getting sick. We ingest all of this when we eat non-organic or non-grass fed meats.
The term 'certified organic' means that your food has been grown free from pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or chemical fertilizers. Organic meats will be free of antibiotics and growth hormones.
Organic foods contain a higher number of antioxidents, minerals, protein and enzymes than non-organic.
If you need more proof of why we should eat organic; many doctors and healing clinics recommend a purely organic diet to patients as it is proven to cleanse the body from toxins and allow efficient and speedy healing.
Organic food is uncomplicated. Your body can digest and pull out all the good stuff it needs without having to battle with processing chemicals. You body just loves organic food!!
Organic food may cost a bit more but you're spending that money on your health. Think of it as buying the best vitamins your body could ever need! You're also helping the environment by supporting farmers who farm the land as mother nature intended.
Things to eat:
Certified organic- ensure the label carries 'certified' proof that it is organic.
Grass-fed or free range - look for organic grass fed or free range on the label.
Fruit & veggies - always eat in season and choose organic. If you aren't sure then peel it before you eat it. Visit a local organic famers market and enjoy shopping for food that looks and tastes amazing.
Things to watch:
Read labels - organic doesn't mean certified organic. Some sauces say organic but can contain as much as 50% non-organic ingredients. Ensure the label on sauces reads 100% organic.
Wash everything - even if it's organic, you don't know who's handled it before you!

TRIBES GO PRIMAL
Sunday 1st August saw 20 teams battle it out at the inaugural Primal Challenge. Held at Narrabeen's Jamison Reserve, this stunning location was the perfect setting for the race with a difference.
As dawn broke on the lagoon the Primal Fit Team united from across Sydney to set up for the event.
Registration opened at 8:45am and a flurry of tribes eagerly registered and got ready to warm up for the an event that was to test every muscle in their bodies. Some tribes took full advantage of the fancy dress option and it was great to see Santa and his ‘Tiger’, Tarzan and his ‘Zebra’ and a good few grass skirts and wigs in full effect.
The challenge began with a compulsory back to back squat hold for 1 minute. Competitors gritted their teeth and dug deep for 60 second while the Primal Leaders handed round the food that each tribe needed to carry for the duration of the event. The fresh eggs were to be handled with care and to reach the finish line intact or time penalties were to be had.
After a leg-trembling minute, the teams were sent off on a 4km trail run through the bush. Leading the charge back into the challenge arena were Warren and Guy from Primal Fit Northern Beaches, closely followed by Gill & Claire, the first ladies team off the trail. The rest of the tribes returned from the trail run with a mixture of relief and excitement as the real race began.
Primal Challenge isn’t about being the fastest running team, and as tribes began to tackle the challenges it was evident that functional strength, stability and stamina were going to win the day.
The tribes faced a number of circuits based on the PrimalFit core movement patterns: push, pull, lunge, squat, twist, and bend.
Medicine ball throws, 100 suspended rows, 100 push ups, shuttle runs with a 20kg kettle bell and weighted travelling lunges were some of the challenges the tribes battled through.
Team work and planning of the order you did the circuits in were key. Tribes that went from the trail run to the travelling lunges and shuttle runs paid the ultimate price in protesting muscles!
As well as penalties for bad form and posture, there were also bonus points up for grabs if you chose heavier weights and claps on the push up challenge. Some teams had 1 – 2 minutes knocked off their times and moved up the rankings by taking full advantage of these bonuses.
The hard work of all the tribes was audible. The race to the finish line was a teeth clenched, muscle-screaming frenzy!
After a tough battle the first team, Warren and Guy from Team Karmea, crossed the line and claimed the title of Primal Tribal Leaders 2010. First mixed team honours’ went to Madeleine and Ben from PrimalFit Rose Bay who were near the back of the pack on the trail run and battled it out hard on the challenges to leap up the rankings. They were closely followed by the first ladies team, Gill and Claire.
You can read Gill’s race report on the fantastic new Banzai website.
Congratulations to all the tribes that took part in the first Primal Challenge. We look forward to welcoming you back for the next event in the summer, which promises to be even more challenging. Get out there, get Primal Fit, and next time bring your water wings!
A huge thank you to our sponsors : 2XU, Total Immersion, The Organic Cook.
