Opens March 10
Winner of three Tony Awards, 42nd Street will make its Jacksonville theatrical debut at the new Alhambra Theatre on March 10.
Plus, a new menu from Executive Chef Matthew Medure.
The quintessential backstage musical – a show about a show -- 42nd Street tells the story of a naïve young actress named Peggy Sawyer who has come to audition for a new Broadway musical and finds herself suddenly starring in the show! A celebration of Broadway and the people involved in shows, 42nd Street features varied and upbeat dance numbers, and hit musical songs such as “We’re in the Money,” “Lullaby of Broadway,” and “Shuffle off to Buffalo.”

Said new owner, Craig Smith, “This show really does take the theatre back to its roots, and it’s a perfect way to celebrate the rebirth of the Alhambra in all its glory. Back in the day, the Alhambra was the cultural centerpiece of Jacksonville. A night at the Alhambra was a big night out. We are thrilled with this show because it has that air about it – a true Broadway play for a great iconic theatre.”
42nd Street will be ushered in in grand style on March 12 with the first Gala Grand Opening in several years. In her hey-day the Alhambra opened each new run with a gala event the first Friday of each show. Complete with red carpets, skylights, and velvet ropes, VIPs, media and season ticket partners, the Gala will return!
Also making its debut for 42nd Street will be a new menu by Executive Chef Matthew Medure. Chef Medure will prepare a unique menu that feature that includes dishes from the 1940’s era as well as some items he occasionally offers at his restaurants, Matthew’s and Medure. High School Musical Wrap Up We want to thank the cast and crew of the High School Musical on Stage production for their extra effort and dedication to make that show successful! We continually asked them to help us promote the show with non-theatre performances and they always, always rose to the occasion. The cast appeared at the Bolles School, the Episcopal School, Chick Fil A, Radio Disney's Noon Years Eve and the Summer Camp Fest, and they appeared on First Coast News and WJXT's morning show -- and they always performed with a smile! Thanks for going the extra step for the Alhambra -- you guys always had your head in the game. We look forward to having each of you back at the Alhambra for future shows.
Guitar Winner More than 5,000 people entered the Alhambra's drawing to win a commemorative Disney High School Musical Guitar. Thanks for entering! And the winner is Kendal Hunter of Fernandina Beach. Thanks to Radio Disney for all of your help making High School Musical on Stage a big hit!
