Wildcat Family!
It sure seems as if I begin each of these letters with something like: Wow, are we to that point in the school year already? Unfortunately, this one is no exception. It is unbelievable that we just completed the 5th 6-week period and have only one more until summer! The year truly flew by!
PTA has enjoyed a successful year thanks to your support! Read on for details on items purchased by PTA for Wester and to learn more from the various chairmen. Remember to check us out and view a calendar of events online at www.westerpta.com.
We are seeking board members for next year so please spread the word to parents of incoming 7th and 8th graders. If you or someone you know is interested in any of the following positions, or would like more information, please contact me.

Bookfair The Wester Spring Bookfair was a great success!! We were able to get some great new books for our library -so make sure you head on over to see Ms. Swanson and check out her new selections!! Thanks so much to all the parents who stopped in to browse or buy during Open House on Tuesday night. Your support was vital to reaching our goals. The volunteer parents that helped out during Book Fair week deserve a big round of applause and a personal thank you from me. They all did a great job for our Wester students:

Freaky Friday's here again!
Don't forget to bring a couple of dollars with you for some well deserved snacks after school. This is a great way to help out with the student hunger problem and support your Wester PTA!

Donation Drive A huge thank you to everyone who participated in our “Don’t Show Up Event” Donation Drive!
All donations directly benefit the students and campus of Wester and we are thankful that your generosity has raised $4,000.00 thus far!
If you have not participated, it’s never too late to submit your tax-deductible donation!
You can donate online via Paypal at www.westerpta.com or send a check (payable to Wester PTA) to school, attention PTA.
While a $25.00 donation per student is suggested, we will happily accept any donation you can make.
Library News from the Library
Check with your students to see if they have overdue books and/or fines. It has been extremely time consuming to get out notices to parents when the students don't respond on their own. Many of the email addresses in Infinite campus no longer work and it's library money that pays for postage. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I need to get all books back in the library by May 21st for inventory.
Last day to order yearbooks online will be April 26, still at only $40 to reserve your student's copy. The Josten link is available on the Library Website. Books sold at the end of the school year will be $45 each as long as they are available.
The Library will be having a Buy One/Get One Free Book Fair May 24 - May 26 in the library. stock up for the summer. This Bookfair provides books for our library, no money profit.

A Message of Thanks from Wildcat Faculty and Staff
We would like to thank our wonderful Wester PTA for helping us purchase new furniture and technology equipment for our teachers and students. The financial assistance of PTA allowed us to free up funds to purchase much needed additional student desks, and even make a few comfort updates to our teacher's lounge (since what we had were "leftovers" from the previous building occupant, Mansfield High School).
PTA funds provided allowed us to purchase the following items this school year:

Socials Again, thank you to everyone for volunteering and helping make the dance fun for the kids and successful for the PTA. Also, thank you for all the students who attended. We made $1,424.77 on the dance. Your participation helps us give back to the school. So far this year, we have given $7,000 for school cameras, projectors and cafeteria tables. We look forward to continuing our contributions to help our students have the best possible education. Thank you for helping us make this possible.

PTA would like to thank Wester’s tremendous librarian, Karen Swanson, for her endless support this year. From distributing information packets to hosting the first ever Reflections Art Show, she was there at every turn eager to lend a hand. What an asset she is to the students of Wester.

Teacher Appreciation
Thanks so much to all of you who volunteered to serve on the Teacher Appreciation committee! With your help, we have been able to provide lots of yummy meals and treats for our teachers and staff so far! Here is a quick rundown of what our committee has been able to do to show our appreciation to those who work hard every day for our kids:
AUGUST: Back to School luncheon catered by Texas Roadhouse (desserts provided by our wonderful volunteers!) OCTOBER: Halloween Breakfast Treat Day (all supplied by volunteers) NOVEMBER: Soup and Salad Luncheon (once again….our SUPER volunteer committee!) DECEMBER: Luncheon catered by Johnny Carino’s (desserts provided by volunteers) FEBRUARY…..we attempted a sweets day, but the big SNOWSTORM OF 2010 forced us to cancel MARCH: Sandwiches were brought in from Schlotzsky’s the night of Open House. Our teachers and staff are SO busy between the final school bell and the beginning of Open House that they often don’t have time to go home to eat dinner.
As you can see, our committee has been very busy and we aren’t done yet! Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up May 3rd – May 7th. We are in the process of planning a week full of surprises for our teachers. They will be treated to a trip around the world…..with each day bringing something special from a different country!! Mark your calendars and take a moment that week to show your child’s teachers just how much you appreciate all the time and hard work they put in every day for our kids!!
