The Hurt LockerThe Hurt Locker

The Hurt Locker

"The rush of battle is a potent and often lethal addiction, for war is a drug." Kathyrn Begelow's THE HURT LOCKER, infused with a forceful intensity, is less war film and more suspenseful character driven action film designed to draw you deeper into the mystery that is Staff Sgt. William James. Is he a gifted bomb technician or a risk junkie? Is he endangering the lives of his men, or, are his actions reflecting the reality that safety in midst of war is an illusion? You'll definitely want to check this one out.

Decatur, GA 30033

Paul J. Adams III, an African-American man with activist roots in the 1960's civil rights movement, came from a family of teachers. After being blacklisted himself as a teacher in Alabama because of his civil rights activities, he moved to Chicago and eventually became principal of Providence St. Mel, an all-black parochial school on Chicago's notorious drug-ridden, gang-ruled West Side. That was over 30 years ago. Since then, 100% of Providence St. Mel graduates have been accepted to college, half of them, during the last seven years, to first tier and Ivy League colleges and universities. With an "old school" approach to learning—"Do the work"—and a dedicated corps of teachers and administrators, Providence St. Mel can serve as a model for revamping all of American education. Directed by Rollin Binzer (Ladies & Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones).

THE PROVIDENCE EFFECT opens January 22nd at AMC's North DeKalb Mall
(11:00), 1:30, 4:15, 7:00, 9:45 PM
