SHUTTER ISLAND

First working together on 2002's GANGS OF NEW YORK, Martin Scorcese and Leonardo DiCaprio have teamed up once more for their 4disappearancetion, SHUTTER ISLAND. disappearanceys U.S. Marshall Edward "Teddy" Daniels, a detective who has come to Ashecliff Hospital to investigate the disapperance of a young mental patience from a locked room. Teddy soon discovers that the girl's disapperance is only one of Ashecliff's myriad of mysteries and if he wants to survive, he'll have to uncover the truth behind them all. Adapted from Dennis Lehane's novel of the same name, SHUTTER ISLAND is part noir, part psychological thriller and all countryse as he demonstrates why he's remained one of the most dynamic directors working in film today.

Call for Entries: The Athena Film Festival (February 10-13, 2011)

Film is a medium known to most people in nearly every part of the world. Films have power. They create conversation. They reveal truths. They inspire. And that is why Barnard College is proud to launch the Athena Film Festival, a world-class celebration of film and the women who write and direct them, who are behind the camera, in front of the camera, and in the industry at-large.

Through feature films, documentaries, and shorts, the Festival will explore what makes a leader. Is it the ability to inspire people to fight injustice or stand up for the rights of those who are powerless? The festival will examine the values women leaders share-vision, courage, resilience-and explore leadership across race, class, and culture. The Festival will highlight the wide diversity of women's leadership in both real life and the fictional world, illuminating the sometimes passionate, sometimes agonizing stories of women from across the globe who have made a difference in their countries and communities. Our goal is to open a robust presumed about women and leadership: what it takes to excel, collaborate, lead, and inspire.

Summer Film Institute

Want to shot a movie this summer? This summer's film institute will immerse you in the art of filmmaking in a hands-on, professional environment. Participants will have three weeks to write, produce, direct, edit, and screen a short film. The institute will teach you about all aspects of film production taught by professionals in the field. If you have had some filmmaking experience and want to put your skills to use in a professional setting, or if you have had no experience but you are eager to work on a film set, this filmmaking boot camp is for anyone who wants to experience the magic of movie making.

24p HD cameras, lights, and editing equipment provided. Film will be shot in or around Dahlonega, Georgia. The institute is held on the North Georgia College and University campus approx 1 hour north of Atlanta. Housing is available on campus, but commuters are welcome. We will be working as a film crew, so long hours can be expected. The film will be screened at the Holly theatre. All participants will leave with a copy of the film for their use for film festivals, reels, etc... if you want to learn how to tell a great cinematic story, and you are looking for some hands on experience, this course is for you.

College Credit Offered but not required (College Credit 9 hours = Directing - 3 hours, Screenwriting - 3 hours, Intro to Film - 3 hours)

There are no pre-requisites, Non-College students are welcome.
