What's New on WonderBaby?

Mommy's Little Helper

Ivan had a week off in June and I was busy trying to fill his days with activities that were both fun and educational, but I also had so many chores to do! So I took Ivan down into the basement and had him help me load the dirty clothes into the laundry. He loved it! The water, the buttons, the sounds...it was great! This kicked off a week of learning all about the house, chores, and daily living skills.

Of course, I have written about this on WonderBaby before, but maybe I had never really taken my own advice to heart. I've written about Everyday Activities that can teach your child about the world, and I've even posted an article on teaching blind children Organizational and Living Skills, but this week was really an eye opener for me.

We had the most fun in the kitchen and Ivan even learned how to bake a cake! Read this article on How to Make Your Own Cake to see how it went.

Yes You Can!

Eric Vasiliauskas writes about the time his blind six-year-old son, Vejas, asked if he could learn to surf. Eric was frightened for his son, but Vejas felt nothing but excitement, so his dad decided to let him give it a go. Read Eric's story to find out what happened.

Have you had this experience with your kids? Have you ever felt scared to let them do something only to find that they were much more adventurous than you would have ever imagined? Tell us about it!

Of course, we also have to remember not to push too hard. Our kids need freedom to grow and learn, but they also need to feel safe and loved and totally accepted for who they are. It's a hard balance to strike, but something we need to think about. Read More.

Fun & Games

Ivan has a new favorite toy: The Bilibo! We just can't stop talking about how much we love this toy. It's fun, indestructible, and even teaches Ivan balance and improves muscle tone. Check it out!
