TI WEATHER | TI NEWS | COMMISSION MEETING 3/16/10
Not a ditch - a "swale"
You are correct: all the digging and sodding on the westbound shoulder of the TI causeway is for the construction of "swales." A swale (as if we need to explain) is designed to manage water runoff. (For example: if you run off the causeway in your car, you'd be stuck in a swale, not a ditch). So all those bad ponds we used to get on the causeway after a heavy rain (or even a light dew) are banished to wherever bad ponds go, which is (as if we need to explain) a swale. Which is swell. The graphic (above) explains little but looks impressive.
Lots about lots
Everybody ... remember where you parked, for it's likely to be one crowded house Wednesday night at TI City Hall for the Parking Regulations Workshop. The City Commission will review the proposed new city-wide parking regulations to hammer out a consensus (actual hammers not included) to send to the Local Planning Agency, where they will review it with real hammers. The workshop begins at 6pm Wednesday, March 10th and ends somewhere in a galaxy far, far away. You may want to bring your own seat cushion - those hard plastic orange chairs at city hall are nothing like BMW seats (as if we need to explain). Oh, it will be on TITV615, too.
Spring breakdown
It's been a long, cold winter here on the island with many a yard, after the Big Freeze, looking like a Wasilla nursery. But this weekend our clocks "spring ahead" one hour and when clocks spring, you know that spring isn't far behind. Or ahead. Whatever. And spring is all about green and green is all about St. Patrick and St. Patrick is all about banishing snakes (even though all evidence suggests that post-glacial Ireland never had snakes, as if we need to explain). Today, of course, we have both snakes and St. Patrick's Day, so we are truly blessed. Celebrate the Holiday of Green with a some vigorous golf or tennis and a strong bar-b-q at the St. Patrick's Day Golf & Tennis Social this Saturday, March 13th at Treasure Bay on Paradise Island. It starts at 9am with some of the proceeds going to Team TI in Relay for Life. |

SO LONG, FAREWELL: After 6 years as District 2 commissioner, we hum the "so long, farewell" song from the Sound of Music for Ed Gayton, who has his last commission meeting this Tuesday. Ed was always well-prepared for every meeting (he probably was the kind of kid who did his homework on the bus and always got an "A") and kept the commissioners and staff on their toes. District 2 will be represented the next two years by Gail Caldwell, who will be sworn in March 16th. A reception at TI City Hall for Ed and Gail is set for 5pm on Tuesday, March 16th. BYOB ...
