I-GO is participating in some great events this month. Stop by, say hi, and bring a friend: We'll give 'em a discount on their membership signup and you'll earn free driving credits!

Mindfulive! Presents Carbon Nation
Thurs, Sept 23, 5:30-10pm
Unity in Chicago, 1925 W Thome Ave
Join Mindful Metropolis as they screen the solutions-driven Carbon Nation. This documentary offers conversations about how climate change also involves social, economic and national security issues. I-GO will be on board, among other green companies, exhibiting environmentally responsible options. The evening will begin with a reception for attendees to mingle. After the film is shown, a panel discussion with local experts allows the audience to engage with the film. We hope you will join us for this educational, uplifting and fun evening!

Hyde Park Jazz Festival
Sat, Sept 25, 1-10pm
Various venues in Hyde Park

We’re super jazzed that it’s time for the Hyde Park Jazz Festival again! The 4th annual fest brings together thousands of jazz fans of all ages to enjoy 13 hours of FREE (!!!!), non-stop jazz performed indoors and out, at many of Hyde Park’s finest visual arts, music, theater, and architectural venues. The fest opens at the James W. Wagner Main Stage on the Midway Plaisance and finishes with the Midnight Jam session, both on 59th Street. I-GO will be among the other non-profit vendors on the Midway Plaisance. Come party with us!

Edgewater GRalley
Sat, Sept 25, noon-10pm
6200 N Glenwood Ave

The Edgewater neighborhood comes alive for the third annual, all-ages street festival in the heart of Chicago's Far North Side. This one-day event features an exciting line-up of live music, beer gardens, food tents, a Green Pavilion featuring exhibits and ideas on how to lower your carbon footprint, a raffle and silent auction, and, last but not least, a Kid's Corner featuring fun games and other exciting child-related activities. In other words, plenty of entertainment for adults and children, both day and night, all executed responsibly, with an eye towards low environmental impact. I-GO has been invited to join the party again this year. Stop by our tent for some discounts and give-a-ways.

Haul things considered

I-GOers know car sharing rocks for grocery runs, picking up the kids from soccer practice, client visits, and hitting the town with your pals. But the addition of a new Toyota Tacoma compact pickup truck to the I-GO fleet reminded us that our larger vehicles are ideal for a certain perennial chore requiring a little more heavy lifting: Moving Day!

Hiring movers or renting a ginormous all-day truck takes care of the big stuff. But what about all those endless smaller hauls you invariably require when moving into a new home? Same goes for students toting furnishings, appliances, decor, and whatnot to a dorm, fraternity/sorority house, or campus apartment. With I-GO, you can just grab the nearest available Honda Element, CR-V, or Odyssey, or perhaps a Toyota Scion xB or Sienna or Nissan Cube for all those odds and ends — without having to rent a big truck or van for an entire day.

That Tacoma pickup truck, FYI, is parked at Warren Park, 6601 N. Western Ave., thanks to our ongoing partnership with the Chicago Park District. Our first Tacoma is at 2021 W. Chicago Ave. in the Ukranian Village.

Beam me up, Scotty

Yep, it's true. We've just updated our mobile sites for iPhone and other smart phones with location awareness functionality! Didn't know I-GO has a reservation website configured for your smartphone? If you're reading this email on your phone right now, give it a whirl: http://reservations.igocars.org/mobile

Now you can search for cars by current location or opt to search by home or work address settings or a specific address as you do on our main website reservation system. We've also added a confirmation screen that combines lots of useful info, such as parking lot details, vehicle usage info, and special messages. The formatting has been upgraded for greater readability, and you can link to images for better visual detail.

As always, you can also fine-tune your search by vehicle type, time, and amenities, and quickly extend your reservation during a trip (if the car hasn't been booked by another member for that time slot) — an especially handy feature that gives you that extra half hour or hour you invariably need to finish an errand or get gas, or to avoid the stress of rushing back to the parking location to avoid a late-return fee.

These improvements are part of I-GO's ongoing efforts to make our car sharing service as efficient and convenient as possible wherever you happen to be. We encourage you to bookmark the mobile site or save the I-GO logo icon to your home screen for immediate access whenever you need a car.

Culture club

We're always amazed by the types of companies and organizations that sign up for business memberships with I-GO. From design firms to eco-conscious startups to non-profits engaged in every type of humanitarian pursuit, these folks inspire us to try harder every day. And we're happy to help them save money on their transportation needs through the three custom rate plans we offer businesses.

We tip our hats to one of our newest members. For 40 years, the Chicago Center for Urban Life & Culture, located at 1515 E. 52nd Place in Hyde Park, has extended the classroom walls for students from more than 30 liberal arts colleges and universities by providing practicum opportunities in all academic majors as well as urban teaching and social work in Chicago.  Through its focus on experiential education, Chicago Center equips college students and other participants to learn from diverse urban communities via innovative programs, seminars and internships.

They'll be celebrating their four decades of service on Nov. 6 with a gala celebration at Carnivale preceded by a full day of events. To that, we simply say, "Cheers!"
