The nine lives of Kathy Buckley

By Brande Victorian

Kathy Buckley

Don’t mess with Kathy Buckley. That’s what “America’s favorite hearing-impaired comedienne, actress, motivational speaker, and humanitarian” told audiences in her critically acclaimed one-woman off-Broadway show, Don’t Buck with Me/Now Hear This! This month, Buckley will be the keynote speaker at the Academy of Doctors of Audiology’s Annual Convention to be held in Clearwater Beach, FL October 29-31.

The contracts, which were announced in August, will take effect on November 1 and run for a 1-year base period ending next October 31. After that, the VA will have the option of extending the contracts for four additional 1-year periods. Typically, the agency does so, though it can choose not to exercise the option if, for example, a company fails to perform satisfactorily or if there is a lack of funding or need for the hearing aids when the contract comes up for renewal. These contracts stipulate firm fixed prices for the hearing aids supplied to the VA, but the number of instruments is not fixed. Read More

Not Just Another Day at the Office

A few weeks ago, the clinical and support staff at the Tustin [CA] Hearing Center was working through a busy morning of seeing patients on one of the hottest days of the summer. Last year, after more than 10 years of building up a very good and diverse audiology practice, Janell Reid opened a beautiful new office near her original location. The new office is welcoming and functional for patients, as well as for Janell, four additional audiologists, and their support staff. The busy day in question included visits from representatives of two hearing aid manufacturers as well as a full schedule of patients and the inevitable walk-ins. Read More
