Dear Good News Magazine Subscriber, How much do you know about the world around us? Many people seem blissfully ignorant about the world outside their doors. Several years ago a study of Americans aged 18 to 24 found that: • Nearly two thirds could not find Iraq on a map (even after several years of war and several thousand U.S. combat deaths there).
• Almost nine in 10 could not locate Afghanistan on a map (again, after several years of war involving U.S. forces in that country).
• Almost two thirds could not find Saudi Arabia, and three quarters could not locate Israel on a map.
• Their ignorance wasn't limited just to international areas. One in three couldn't locate Louisiana (after months of news coverage of the devastating flooding of New Orleans and damage wrought by Hurricane Katrina), and half or fewer could correctly point out New York or Ohio on a map. Needless to say, such findings are dismaying. They demonstrate that many people are ill-equipped to cope with our fast-changing world—people who likely will be taken by surprise at the global shifts taking place around us at an ever-increasing pace. But you need not be among them! Under the Good News logo on the cover of every issue are some very important words: "A Magazine of Understanding." And The Good News truly is a magazine of understanding. One of our goals is to provide you as a reader with a crucial understanding of the world around you. Most magazines are focused on the shallow and the trivial. We instead focus on the trends and events that are shaping our world in ways that most fail to recognize. We also have the benefit that understanding Bible prophecy brings. This provides a completely different level of insight—divine insight into the forces shaping and molding our world. Bible prophecy is very much like a map—a map on which the future is spelled out for those with willing hearts and eyes to see and ears to hear.  In The Good News, we're currently doing a three-part series on the major geopolitical trends that, according to Bible prophecy, will powerfully shape the world in the time leading up to Christ's return. You cannot understand the major events now taking place without the crucial information revealed in these articles!
In the January-February Good News, we discussed the prophesied decline of the major English-speaking nations, specifically the United States and Britain. What's behind their enormous financial meltdown? Why are they stuck in seemingly unwinnable wars? Why is American power and prestige plummeting? All these things were foretold long ago in Bible prophecy. In the March-April issue, soon to show up in your mailbox (if it hasn't already), we discuss the rise of a new global superpower that is even now a rival to the United States. What is driving the efforts to unify Europe as a global counterweight to America? What does Bible prophecy reveal? Where will these efforts lead? In the May-June issue, now being written, we will examine the Middle East—the roots of its ancient conflicts, why this area is so important and how events there will ultimately draw the world into a final conflagration that will threaten human survival! Again, you cannot afford to be without this priceless information. We hope you'll read these issues and articles carefully and prayerfully. You can be one of those with understanding of where the world is heading and why!
