Dear Good News Magazine Subscriber,
Our magazine is called The Good News, and it is. But we all experience an overwhelming amount of the other kind of news. I just watched a video tribute to a 21-year-old mother whose life was taken in a car accident last week. What a terrible tragedy and an immense hole left in the lives of all who knew her, and especially her family—and her 18-month-old son!
In the face of such sorrow, we all cry out: Why? Why is there so much suffering in this world? Why such tragic and untimely deaths?
And when we get down to it, all deaths are untimely. My mother lost her battle with cancer last year at age 71, and it was far too soon. Just ask my dad, who never imagined going on without her.
The Bible calls death our enemy, our last enemy. Jesus Christ, our Creator, was Himself willing to face this enemy in all of its enormity. Why? Out of love, compassion and mercy. His death makes it possible for all to have a new life! In the resurrection chapter, 1 Corinthians 15, the apostle Paul looks to the end of the story, to a time when “‘Death is swallowed up in victory.’ ‘O Death, where is your sting? O Hades [the grave], where is your victory?’” (verses 54-55).
The apostle John also envisioned that wonderful time when “God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4).
Couldn’t you use a little good news, comfort and encouragement from God’s Word about the pain, suffering and death in this world? I find comfort in the biblical promises set out in the carefully and compassionately written publications Why Does God Allow Suffering? and What Happens After Death? You can read them online by clicking on the links, but we are also happy to mail them to you at no charge, as our gift to you. Just click on the links then choose the “Order Free Copy” tabs.
You’ll find practical help in dealing with grief and comforting others, as well as surprising hope and biblical answers to questions that have troubled people for centuries.
May the “God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3) comfort you with the answers outlined in these free booklets. And may the day come soon when “there shall be no more death”! Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Warm regards,
Mike Bennett
