With so much going on in the world, and so quickly, it's crucial for us to stay on top of what's happening—especially from an all-important biblical perspective! You'll find the next issue of The Good News particularly helpful in that regard.

Having edited The Good News for almost 15 years now, at times it's been a challenge to come up with interesting and relevant cover themes. This time, though, it wasn't hard at all. This issue's theme—"The New World Disorder"—analyzes the growing chaos and confusion we see all around us.

The greatest difficulty we faced was in trying to decide how much of the world's chaos can we cover? Then, just as we were putting the final touches on the issue and sending it to our proofreaders, events in Iran threatened to spin out of control as hundreds of thousands of Iranians flooded the streets to protest what they saw as an election rigged to keep President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in power for another term.

Normally we might simply gloss over such events. But these are not normal times—not when that same Iran is intently pursuing nuclear weapons, has repeatedly called for the extermination of Israel and is one of the world's leading sponsors of terrorism.

Meanwhile, the government of Pakistan—which shares a long border with Afghanistan and already possesses at least several dozen nuclear weapons—is facing growing instability and the threat of being overthrown by supporters of al-Qaeda and the Taliban. And not to be outdone, North Korea recently detonated another nuclear device in an underground test and launched a series of missiles thought to be capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

When I read today's headlines, I cannot help but be reminded of Jesus Christ's sobering prophecy in Matthew 24:21 of world conditions leading up to His return: "It will be a time of great distress, such as there has never been before since the beginning of the world, and will never be again" (Revised English Bible).

We live in uncertain and dangerous times. We at The Good News look forward to continuing to help you make sense of it all and better grasp the good news of God's Kingdom that grows ever closer.
