Main Street Birmingham is collecting historic photos of Ensley for a new book chronicling the area's rich history. Main Street Birmingham has entered into a contract with Arcadia Publishing to produce Images of America: Ensley and Tuxedo Junction.  Because this future work will feature historical images, Main Street Birmingham is asking for the public's help obtaining images from private collections. All photographic contributions will be returned to the owners. For more information, contact Mary Allison Haynie.

Main Street and BBA Host Small Business Lending Workshop
Main Street Birmingham, Inc. and the Birmingham Business Alliance Small Business Committee are sponsoring a workshop for small business owners on Wednesday, March 24 from 11:30am to 1:00pm at the Birmingham Business Alliances offices on the second floor of the Financial Center at 505 20th Street North. The workshop will educate small business owners on what bankers, investors and public lenders are looking for in small businesses before investing.

“Accessing start-up capital remains one of the biggest challenges for entrepreneurs,” said Main Street Birmingham Executive Director David Fleming. “If small business owners want a shot at the money that’s out there, they have to shine above the rest and we hope we can give them some insight that will allow them to do this.”

Speakers will include small business owner Lee Conn of Motus Motorcycles and Sam Crawford, Director of Business Growth for Main Street Birmingham. Lunch will be provided. There is no cost to attend the workshop, but seating is limited. Online registration will be available at the
Birmingham Business Alliance website next week.

Emagine Ensley

To kickoff the Alabama Department of Tourism's Year of Small Towns and Downtowns, the Ensley Merchants Association is hosting E-Magine Ensley, a Community Forum on large development projects contributing to the revitalization of Ensley.  When fully completed, these E-Magnets in housing, health care, business, and heritage tourism will draw residents, visitors, and new investments to the area.

The event will be held Thursday, March 25th, 2010 from 6:00-8:00pm at 1816 Avenue E, the location of Ensley Live Entertainment Loft. The public is invited to contribute to a discussion on how the community can work together to move these projects forward.
