The Parallel - The Parallel EP

The third Komisch release is by The Parallel. With a string of digital releases to his credit, this talented new producer now makes his vinyl debut. ‘Abyss' gets down to business, as spacey textures melt into billowing chord sequences, underpinned by spiky claps and intricately woven pitch bent percussion. By the time the massive kick arrives, the seduction is complete. ‘Mind Reverse' is focused on the floor, its stomping beats and metallic, robotic synths becoming increasingly more claustrophobic until the track breaks into a ghostly breakdown. On the flip, ‘Nanotech' starts off in dreamy mode before a hammering drum and a fluid acid line lead it to a crashing snare-led climax. Finally, ‘The Parallel' ends the EP in mellow mode with a snaking, sensuous bass and raw drums fused with soft, resonating melodies. With more EPs planned for Komisch in 2010, this is not the last you've heard of The Parallel's universe.

Dark Beat is a new label from Glasgow, set up to promote its own take on deep, dark atmospherical techno. After the success of their digital releases this is our first Dark Beat Remixes vinyl which has cuts from the very popular Omen and Untamed EP's from label bosses Deepbass & Roman Toletski. On the A side we have Oddity with a massive remix from Mark Broom. His remix of Oddity is a no nonsense stripped back techno affair with a ripping synth line, the track teases you with a number off small drops before the massive atmospheric breakdown which would bring carnage on any dance floor. On the B side we have The Orb Theory with a remix from Edit Select who seems to be able to to no wrong with his string of releases on his self named label Edit Select Records. His remix explores the realms of atmospherical techno and has a straight up tribal feel about it, this track has been creating quite a fuss at Berlin's Berghain during the early hours. The track has a percussive drive with rolling snares and a beautiful synth line that rises and fades throughout the track.

Joker - Digi Design (Om Unit's Pop Lock Mix)

Arguably one of the top ranking dubstep / bass music releases of the past 12 months, and undeniably one of the most widely loved and heavily played, Joker’s epic synth track ‘Digidesign’ now gets the rework treatment from Om Unit, ramping up the rhythms and hitting the hard-bap pedal with extra weight to create a wobbling headnodder fix with a touch of off-centre (un)balance. This remix has been doing the rounds since late summer with support from the likes of Mark Pritchard aka Harmonic 313, Plastician, Jamie Vex’d (Planet Mu/Hotflush), Alexander Nut (Rinse/Eglo), and Joker himself. Richard ‘Sticky' Forbes built his reputation as one of the country’s leading club music producers at the height of the UK Garage scene. His distinctive sound not only made his music unavoidable in the clubs during this era, but also launched the careers of a number of the UK’s leading talents, including Ms. Dynamite. Sticky re-emerged on the scene in 2009 with a fresh sound and quickly grabbed strong radio support. One of his biggest tracks this year, ‘Jumeirah Riddim’ goes hard into the genre of UK Funky house. Rising Jamaican dancehall star Natalie Storm is on board to voice the riddim, and her catchy monster version also appears here, called ‘Look Pon Me’, which in turn becomes a heavy bass epic remix courtesy of bassline mastermind Dexplict. This EP additionally contains ‘Jumeirah Riddim Sequel’, a variation on the cut, plus a clean edit of ‘Look Pon Me’.
