Cancer Crusader
Nana, What's Cancer?She Chose Door # 2

For some, terminal Cancer sounds like a death sentence. For others, like Beverlye Hyman-Fead, it’s a call to action.

Beverlye was an accomplished artist when she was diagnosed with Cancer and given eight weeks or less to live. Instead of accepting her “fate,” Beverlye got gutsy and “chose door #2”; a risky but promising treatment that was less invasive than surgery and chemo. Seven years later, Beverlye is still with us and doing great.

A simple question posed from her then 8 year old granddaughter, Tessa Mae, inspired Beverlye and Tessa to write Nana, What's Cancer?—a book that aims to explain Cancer to children in a non-threatening way. Nana, What’s Cancer?, published by the American Cancer Society, can be pre-ordered now by clicking
here. Beverlye's first book, I Can Do This: Living with Cancer, Tracing a Year of Hope can be ordered here.

While she’s faced setbacks with her health, Beverlye offers this piece of advice: “Have patience. Believe in your work and don’t give up!”

Visit Beverlye Hyman-Fead’s
website to learn more about her books, artwork, and journey to recovery.

For the Love of Sheep!
Fashion. Izzy’s Way.
Isobel Davies
Britain’s own Isobel Davies, founder of Izzy Lane Ethical Fashion, has an eye for quality and the heart of a humanitarian.

This gutsy gal went from being a singer/songwriter to successful pioneer of a new breed of fashion, ethical fashion. The garments that Isobel produces are 100% humane and cruelty free.

Isobel’s soft spot is for sheep. The animals are rescued and allowed to live out their natural lives in peace. As a result, their wool is soft, and of the highest caliber. Determined to preserve the art of knitting and weaving in her country, Isobel also employs skilled workers and centuries old mills to complete her garments. No factories or off-shore production. These clothes are simply exquisite.

Did Isobel need an extensive education in manufacturing to get her idea off the ground? No. She relied on her ambition and conviction to make Izzy Lane Fashion a reality.
"We can each change the world and help to mold its future into a better place for every living creature, we just have to believe it's possible, because it is. Each woman has the power to make a big difference in her lifetime to the thing that she cares most about."
– Isobel Davies Wesleydale Cap Sleeve Cardigan

This month, one lucky Gutsy Gal will receive a
Wensleydale Cap Sleeve Cardigan, donated in kind by Isobel herself. To win, be the first to successfully subscribe ten of your friends to the Gutsy Gals Inspire Me sisterhood (i.e., email list). The Ultimate Road Trip
America’s first fearless female to cross the country by car.
Alice Ramsey
At only 22 years old, Alice Ramsey bravely accomplished what none before her had dared. Exactly 100 years ago this June, Alice and her three girlfriends set out in a 1909 Maxwell DA and drove from New York to San Francisco. With no men to guide or protect them, the poncho-clad women challenged the status quo and placed another brick in the Suffrage movement that would eventually lead to equal rights for us all.
Emily Anderson
This month, Emily Anderson and her father are honoring Alice and her achievement by re-creating Alice’s famous cross country drive. Visit
http://aliceramsey.org/the-route to follow Emily as she travels across the U.S. in a restored Maxwell DA. And if she blazes through your town, come out to cheer her (and the memory of Alice) on!

Think Alice is great? Check out the very 1st person to ever take a road trip. 1888 was the year and Berta Benz was the driver. Click
here for more.
