BRIAN RUTENBERG
In 2008, Radius Books published, Brian Rutenberg, a comprehensive collection of Rutenberg's nature inspired paintings. Rutenberg draws inspiration from the landscape and creates work that elicits a profoundly visceral experience. In his paintings, he reinvests abstraction with a sense of spirituality that revitalizes the medium. The landscape, complex in its layers, has continued to guide Rutenberg’s approach to composition and color in his new work. TEW Galleries of Atlanta and the Gibbs Museum of Art in Charleston, SC are presenting Rutenberg's recent paintings and works on paper that characterize his unique representation of the landscape through abstraction.

ED MOSES
Arriving in our warehouse this November, Ed Moses, presents the work of one of the most forceful and consistently challenging modernist artists. Rather than maintain one distinct style, Moses has repeatedly embraced new approaches to his art. The constants in his work are an emphasis on gesture, on mark-making, and on an intimate connection with his materials. In addition, almost all of Moses’ work has a sense of three-dimensionality to it. One doesn’t just look at an Ed Moses painting: one enters it, almost in the way that one enters the subconscious during meditation. Moses has been a serious student of Tibetan Buddhism for much of his life, and this influence, the sense of living in the moment, is evident in his work. He says it most succinctly: “I don’t visualize and execute. Every breath is brand new. Don’t think of the future, don’t think of the past, the only factor is now.”

MICHAEL LUNDGREN: TRANSFIGURATIONS
Throughout its history, landscape photography has transitioned from scientific exploration to the idealization of nature and the spectacle of human progress. Lost along the way was a sense that photographs of the land can speak to an ecstatic experience. Borne of this lineage, Transfigurations is an atavistic contemplation of the origin, embracing photography’s duality, veracity and transformation. These photographs are a lust for the primitive. They seek to understand beauty and terror, which are inseparable. In the desert, nothing remains static; even the rocks move. The landscape is discernible only because of the presence of what is fundamentally absent. Myth and metaphor remain unfixed, open.

BEAUMONT'S KITCHEN
Considered by many to be the father of the history of photography, Beaumont Newhall was known by his intimate circle as a great chef and gracious host as well. This beautifully designed volume contains a substantial selection of Newhall’s articles and recipes culled from his weekly column, “Epicure Corner,” which appeared in The Brighton-Pittsford Post in Rochester, New York, from 1956–1969. Accompanying the columns is a selection of photographs made by some of the “Newhall Circle,” which included Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Paul Strand, and many other twentieth-century photographic luminaries, as well as reminiscences from his many colleagues and friends who enjoyed Beaumont’s efforts in the kitchen. This tribute publication to a seminal figure in the history of the medium was edited by David Scheinbaum, who worked with Newhall for 15 years as his assistant, until his death in 1993. Scheinbaum lovingly introduces the book with a personal essay.
The limited edition of Beaumont’s Kitchen is limited to 30 copies, each of which comes with 1 signed and numbered photogravure. The print, titled Prints and Fruit, measures 14 x 17 inches (with an image area of 8 x 10 inches) and has been printed by master printer Jon Goodman. $600

JULIE BLACKMON nominated for the Prix BMW Paris Photo Prize
Arguably the best and most elegant of all the photography fairs around the world, Paris Photo happens every November in the Carrousel Du Louvre. Bernstein & Andriulli will exhibit Blackmon's photographs at this years' Paris Photo, from November 19–22. Radius Books published Blackmon's first monograph, Domestic Vacations, in the Spring of 2009. Raised as the oldest of nine children, with three herself, Blackmon takes an approach to her work that is at once autobiographical and fictional. Blackmon sees life’s most poignant moments as a fusion of fantasy and reality, the mythic amidst chaos. Anne Wilkes Tucker of the Houston Museum of Fine Art has said of her work, “she’s taken a subject that is ripe for cliché—mother photographing children—and through the subtle, digital manipulations, the use of color and highly graphic images, she’s given it humor and edge and taken the subject somewhere fresh.”
