My Podcast Discovery! We are all trying to get the most bang for our buck right? Well, in my ever present effort to market my company and continue to educate myself about my industry, I have stumbled upon the podcast! You may laugh at me. (permission is granted) But how did I miss this? It's easy, often free, packed with information, and you can probably find one that is targeted to your industry. I did. I listen to them while I'm working and then re-listen to them later and take notes. I love iTunes - it's providing insight into my business and not mere background music any longer! The Incredible Marketing Tip Focus Your Efforts When planning your marketing it is extremely important for you to have identified your target audience. I, and maybe you, have struggled with this from day one. I want EVERYONE to be my client! The reality is simple. I cannot possibly mail/email/contact every business owner or business market in America without spending hundreds of thousands of dollars. And since that does not fit in my marketing budget I need to focus. Pick two. Only two. Two target markets for your business to focus on. If you are an ice cream shop that specializes in organic and healthy ice creams you may need to target the people who frequent the farmer's market and businesses who cater to healthy living. If you are a construction company who is known for your attention to detail in historic restorations then you may need to focus on one market that fits the historic profile and another that fits the general home builder profile. Once these target audiences are determined you need to be in the places they gather. Go down to the farmer's market with your ice cream and hand out free samples along with coupons to be used in your store. But, don't be boring. Make sure your marketing campaign supports and reflects your company in a positive, professional and established light. I'm constantly working on solidifying my own target audiences, but knowing that I must focus on just two is a huge help. I can pick my two most promising (or most desired) areas for business, get to know them, create business for myself and, in turn, for them too. My thanks to the Marketing Mentor for opening my design-business-eyes. The Amazing Design Tip Do you need CMYK, RGB, PMS or XYZ? Confused yet? When dealing with the graphic design/printing world there are three main color systems you need to be familiar with - at least in a "shake-hands-exchange-business-cards" kind of way. Some colors are for printing and others are for web. Don't let your colors run amuck into the wrong areas. It is also useful to know that these color systems have aliases. CMYK is also full color and four color and process. See our handy dandy graphic for clarification and reference. Wondering about the XYZ option? No worries, it's just the last three letters of the alphabet :) Have a Pantone 129 Kind of Day!
