Napoli take home the Candilio Cup

The much anticipated Candilio Family Cup was played for between Maria Elena Candilio's Napoli Polo Team and Cavaliers. As is traditional at this yearly event, Napoli Polo Team's mascot Bartolo Candilio paraded alongside his teammates at the introduction of the players.

The match this year was played at a high standard and the two number four players Oscar Mancini and Adolfo Casabal vied for possession of the ball and sent some fantastic passes up the field creating an exciting spectacle for the considerable number of onlookers. As the match developed the lead changed several times and both teams looked strong.

A penalty converted by Maria Elena Candilio at the beginning of the second half gave Napoli Polo Team a good lead despite the half goal awarded to Cavaliers on handicap. Cavaliers fought back well but solid defensive work by Freddie Ventura kept Napoli in the lead. Some torrential rain in the third and fourth chukka made the play difficult for both teams but at the end of the fourth chukka it was Napoli that had done enough to win. The winning team was as follows:

Club American Tournament

Three teams of London based amateur polo players enjoyed a friendly and relaxed American Tournament in front of HPC polo supporters. Chris Graham's Phoenix played four excellent chukkas unassisted by professionals. Animal Art Fair came back in their final chukka to take second place. With only a month of the season left the players are now gearing up for the well known Billy Walsh Tournament.

Ham vs Cowdray Away

The August bank holiday features one of the seasons most important fixtures as the Ham Polo Club team travel to Cowdray Park Polo Club in Sussex for an invitational match. This year the game was played at 6 goal level on one of the countries finest high goal standard grounds Ambersham 1. Cowdray fielded a very strong team that even included a top England international player and the match looked to be hard work for our home side.

Cowdray ran out the winners, however HPC were determined throughout and played to a very high standard. Enormous thanks go to all the Ham supporters who traveled to Cowdray to cheer on the team. Ham Polo Club would also like to thank Cowdray for hosting the match and we hope to see them back at London's only polo grounds for a reciprocal game next season.
